Dream Again

“Happy, successful, fulfilled individuals understand that the future begins with what happens today…”
Joel Osteen ‘your Best Life Now Journal’

Do you ever think about the dreams we had as children or inexperienced adolescents; dreams of grandiloquent and superfluous accomplishments and lifestyles, capped with world peace and eradication of hunger. I am willing to bet my breakfast, or else you are one of the less than 3% of humanity, that it hasn’t turned out 100% as you dreamt it would. The good thing though is that if you are reading this post, then you’re alive and still have the opportunity to attain and even surpass those dreams.

If you can remember what those dreams were, then you can start again today to make efforts to attain them, or adjust them if perhaps your dream was to win the hundred meters Olympic gold medal but now you’re 35 and weigh 115kg with a pot belly. One of the greatest gifts of life is that we have the ability to adjust our goals while in motion. We can adjust or even abort a dream altogether, and its ok, as long as we replace it with another more glorious than the first. If we don’t like what our lives look like at the moment, we can change it. As long as we are alive, whether we are 6 or 60, there are amazing opportunities in our future and it begins with what we do today.

Creation starts afresh every morning; reheated sun, fresh air and flying birds. No matter how stormy, dark or scary the night was, everything starts fresh in the morning, why won’t you? Every new day affords you the opportunity to try once more, to push harder and to dream again. The only thing holding you back is your mind telling you all the reasons it won’t work, and promoting to you the advert ‘it failed before, so it will fail again’. Your future may begin with today, but it does not depend only on today. Let us borrow a leaf from the nineteenth century poet on the attitude we should adopt.

Finish each day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
Some blunders and absurdities have crept in;
Forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day;
You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
