I can feel the torrent from a mile away;
The internal tremor of a thousand hoofs,
Promising to leave nothing in its way,
Like a flood that covers the roofs .

I can feel the power from a mile away,
Like the flash of lightning and rumbling of thunder,
That feels like a slap meant to dissuade the stray,
Which in fear cause me only to act enraged.

I can feel the strength from a mile away,
Feeding on my growing dread,
Blinding me to the possibility of life or a way,
To be freed from the pain of the dead.

Then I feel the calm just before it comes along,
enveloping me like the swaddle of a baby’s crib,
I realise my future is nothing to fear,
Because He will never let me face it alone,

He who holds my trembling heart as His treasured wear.
